Houston, Here they come!

Youth and adults are bound for the ELCA National Youth Gathering in Houston TX!

The other day one of the youth of Augsburg said, “I can’t imagine what 30,000 people actually looks like.” Well, they are about to find out! In less than two weeks, 28 youth and their adult leaders will be on there way to the ELCA Youth Gathering in Houston, Texas! Our youth will live into the theme ‘This Changes Everything” based on Ephesians 2:8.

“I can’t imagine what 30,000 people actually looks like.”

The Gathering, which takes place every three years, draws over 30,000 Lutherans from across the nation and around the world to grow in faith and experience the breadth of God’s kingdom in amazing ways. It is truly a life changing formative experience. Each day, the youth will engage in activities that include service to the Houston community, Bible study, learning about the world around us, and of course a nightly worship service in NRG Stadium where the Houston, Texans play. They will also find time for deepening relationships with other youth from near and far.

As a special part of deepening relationships, the youth of Augsburg are traveling with the youth from Epiphany Lutheran and Christ’s Beloved Community. The 42 in the “Straight Out of Winston” group is the largest group traveling from North Carolina and the third largest at the whole gathering. They will certainly make their presence known daily as they wear matching t-shirts each day.

You’ll be able to follow along with our youth as there will be a whole lot of posting to our Augsburg Facebook page throughout the event. We ask that you pray for these youth, and their chaperones, as they travel and experience this amazing gathering.
At our June 24th 11:00 am worship service, we will have a sending litany for our youth and adults. Please join us that day as we send these young people out to see how God changes their lives and the world around them!
