Worship is the central component of life within the congregation at Augsburg Lutheran Church. We worship at 8:30 AM and 11 AM each week. The services are generally the same, each with a children’s message and communion, and nursery is provided for each. Worship lasts about an hour. There is no dress code. Although many people at Augsburg chose to wear their ‘Sunday Best’, this is only by choice.
It can be said that at Augsburg our worship matches our architecture. Our worship space is traditional, and the same can be said about our worship. We follow a liturgy similar to many other churches. The word “liturgy” means, “work of the people,” which reminds us that worship should be participatory. Our worship includes four sections: Gathering, Word, Meal, and Sending.
We use the same basic scriptures each week as many other churches, called the Revised Common Lectionary. We celebrate communion every Sunday. All who are accustomed to receiving communion (including children) are welcome to do so each and every Sunday morning.
We are in the trial phase on a new alternative worship service. On select dates (12/7, 1/4, 2/1, 4/26, 5/3, and 6/7) this new service will offer worship in the Gathering Room with music of different formats. So far we have experimented with contemporary and gospel music and may branch out further to jazz, bluegrass, etc. This service lasts 45 minutes and includes a children’s message and sermon. The Gathering room is to the left of the glass doors on 5th Street near the enterence to the sanctuary.
